Jeff Widener is an award winning photo journalist who has worked in more than 100 countries around the world. He has captured the beauty and turmoil of East Timor, Syria, India, and the Antarctic, to name just a few.

His best-known photo is “The Unknown Rebel,” also called “Tank Man,” — the iconic image of the Tiananmen Square Protests of 1989. People all around the world recognize this picture of a single young man blocking the path of a column of People’s Liberation Army tanks in Beijing. Link

Diesel bumboats phased out from Singapore River

It was indeed a pity, seeing our very own bumboats to be phased out, with the battery operated ones taking over. Them; the very first generation of bumboats brought in by SRC dating back from 1987, represented the river heritage of its old charm and memory. Today marked a new chapter in Singapore River history, as SRC changed her entire fleet of 24 bumboats (started with a humble fleet of 4 in 1987). Link.

Petaling Street used to have many old building of varying frontages. But time and progress have caught up with the place.

It’s Kuala Lumpur’s old Chinatown, and tourists continue to flock to this place the moment they touch down in Kuala Lumpur. However, in recent years old buildings have been torn down to make way for new ones. Link

Kerala Culture Centre is organizing weekly programmes at Vailopalli Sanskriti Bhavan, Trivandrum. Two plays were put up both of which were simply superb. I have attended plays at Chennai as well but something about these plays simply leaves you asking for more. Link
